Seriously, if you can't use your name, don't bother to leave comments. This is ridiculous that I put my thoughts and feelings and experiences out there and get judged by people who won't even sign their names.
"When people don’t put their names to their words, it devalues what they have to say. In stories about sensitive subjects — alcoholism, sexual assault, people’s criminal pasts — the invisibility perpetuates stigmas. At some point, if a story matters to you and you want to get it out, you need to step up. And sometimes that means saying what only you can say, with your name backing it up.".... courtesy of newsobserver.com
In response to a comment left on "Yupik.... it's all Greek to Me" --- My daughter's teacher asked the class for someone to translate for her and not one student volunteered, so the teacher had to force someone to do it and even then the designated student refused to translate more than the bare minimum. I was informed that I was not allowed to approach an elder because I was a Gussack.

lol gussaq's always so touchy
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous commentator......I hope you are speaking "tongue-in-cheek".
ReplyDeleteIt's ridiculous for people to be bothering you so much. Your trying to help them out, even if they don't see exactly how it will help, they can't really want what's been going on in the villages to continue. I know all of the people I've met from those sorts of places have really wished that someone would have said something, that someone would have done anything to stop what was happening to them. Why would you want to discourage any sort of help, even if it's from someone you call a Gussaq. Obviously none of the Yupik people are able to pull themselves from the community and stand up for what is right, so why tear her down when this Gussaq has more strength then you do, Anonymous?
ReplyDeleteIt's "kass'aq".
ReplyDeleteSeriously, Christina? The original poster makes a derogatory, racist remark and your correct his/her spelling? Are the blinders really that thick?
ReplyDeleteI was correcting the spelling for the people making racist remarks...who are not anonymous.
ReplyDeleteWow... just... wow.
